• Conservation Lecture Series: Giants of South America with Dr. Arnaud Desbiez

    Feb 3rd, 2018
    6:00pm - 8:00pm

Two formidable giants from another era still roam the lands of South America: the giant armadillo and the giant anteater. Very little was known about giant armadillos until the Giant Armadillo Conservation Program started in 2010. From Arnaud working alone with just a few camera traps the program now spans three biomes and a team of six and has garnered national attention for their protection!

The team is also working on a long-term study called Anteaters & Highways with the goal of finding ways to prevent them from being killed on the highways that now cross their habitat. Naples Zoo provides the salary for the projects' head veterinarian Danilo Kluyber.

Come Join Arnaud as he explains his journey to learn more about and help save these two incredible giants. RSVP TODAY.

  • Conservation Lecture Series: Hope for Wild Tigers

    Feb 15th, 2018
    6:00pm - 8:00pm

Hope for Wild Tigers with Dr. Tara Harris

At the rate tigers were being lost in the late 20th century, it didn't seem likely wild tigers would live to see the new millennium. But through the efforts of many, tigers still walk Asian forests. Yet much work remains to continue this good news.

As one of the many voices for tigers, Dr. Tara Harris serves two roles: As coordinator of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums’ Tiger Species Survival Plan®, she manages a breeding program for about 350 purebred tigers living in zoos across North America; and as head of the Tiger Conservation Campaign, she galvanizes zoo support for efforts to save wild tigers in Asia. Come hear her talk about what's making a difference for tigers and how you can be part of making more good news for these majestic creatures.

Gather by the Malayan tigers for an informal mixer from 6 to 6:45 p.m. in the gardens followed by her presentation and Q&A in the Safari Canyon open-air theater until 8 p.m. Please dress comfortably for this evening outdoors.

Cost: General Public: $10 (pay at door)  | Naples Zoo Members: Free | RSVP TODAY.
