December 16 and 17
All of the animals at Naples Zoo made the good list this year and Santa is making an early stop to deliver presents! Zoo guests can enjoy meet and greet opportunities with Santa and one of his elves on Saturday, December 16 and Sunday, December 17. Meet and greet times will be 10 am, 11 am, 12:30 pm, 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm daily on Saturday and Sunday. This year’s event is proudly sponsored by Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida.
In addition to special visits with Santa, our animal residents will receive holiday-themed enrichment all weekend. Guests will see Malayan tigers and South African lions clawing into beautifully decorated presents, monkeys puzzling over their holiday surprises, the giraffe herd munching on their leafy treats, and many other animals enjoying holiday-related delicacies with a wild twist.
Events like this are part of the daily animal enrichment program. Proper animal husbandry by the Zoo’s professional animal care staff includes thorough cleaning, nutritional diets, veterinary evaluations, and daily recording of activities and health, but also mental and physical activities through behavioral enrichment. Enrichment begins with exhibit design, number and variety of animals living together, and also includes items for the animal to play with – or destroy, supplemental foraging activities, and even the use of scents and visuals to increase curiosity about objects. By rotating activities, animals consistently engage in something fun and thought-provoking – and the holidays provide a fun twist. Join us for this special weekend of holiday enrichment festivities!
